Transform composite structures into intelligent sensors

MatriQon adds Structural Intelligence to composite structures of virtually any shape, capturing loads, strain, impacts and vibration and turning that structural data into intelligence on condition, damage, fatigue and remaining life.

Embedded multi-modal distributed real-time sensor layer

MatriQon's ultra-thin, electrically conductive nanofibre sensing layer is embedded within a composite laminate, forming a distributed, real-time, multi-modal sensing network across the component. At the same time, it increases fracture toughness. The layer can also be bonded to existing composite surfaces as a retrofit.

Senses

Continuously capture loads, strain, impacts and vibration across the structure, creating a real operating record for analytics, decisions and future design.

Strengthens

Validated nanofibre configurations can increase fracture toughness, helping structures absorb more energy and resist delamination.

Lightens

At under 40µm, the sensing layer adds negligible mass and can reduce reliance on discrete gauges, wiring and associated hardware.

Driving physics-informed AI models.

Signals from the sensing layer drive MatriQon's physics-informed AI models, combining structural data on loads, strain, impacts, vibration and torsional response with derived intelligence on condition, damage and fatigue. Over time, this evidence can support failure-risk assessment, remaining-life estimation and applications such as condition-based maintenance.

01

Performance

By knowing the state and how composite structures respond to real conditions, operating parameters can be managed in real time, and structural designs can be optimised.

02

Reliability

Each component builds its own operating history, supporting faster assessment and more informed decisions about inspection, maintenance and continued use.

03

Cost

More precise structural evidence can reduce unnecessary inspection, avoid premature replacement and limit downtime, while enabling a shift towards condition-based maintenance where appropriate.

Application-specific Use Cases

MatriQon's technology is applicable across multiple use cases and industries. Developed for the advanced materials sector of the aerospace industry, it has been developed, tested and validated in multiple European and UK government-funded research projects. Many required a customised solution that MatriQon designed, integrated and deployed.

Start with what matters.

The first engagement with MatriQon is built around one critical structure and one decision worth improving. Once the value is established, the scope can grow from a validated starting point.

01

Choose the critical asset

Start with a structure whose availability, performance or safety has a meaningful operational consequence.

02

Define the decision

Agree what better structural insight must make possible for engineering, operations or leadership.

03

Establish the baseline

Build a credible operating picture around the asset and prove its value in the environment that matters.

04

Expand with purpose

Carry the proven approach into further components, programmes, fleets or portfolios.

One asset can establish the case. The platform is designed to carry that value across programmes and industries.
